SEATTLE (KOMO) — A weather system brought rain and strong winds with gusts up to 55 mph to western Washington on Tuesday.
In south Seattle, aerial footage shows buildings surrounded by rainwater.
Witnesses said rainwater already seeped into several buildings in the area.
Multiple cars were also seen stuck in rising flood waters.
A High Wind Warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday for parts of the state. The National Weather Service said strong, damaging winds between 30 mph and 45 mph and gusts up to 65 mph were possible.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect for areas near Bremerton, Everett, Seattle, Tacoma, and in parts of San Juan County and western Whatcom and Skagit counties. The NWS said high tides and rain would likely cause flooding in lots, parks, and roads.
Flooding was reported across the region as early as 9 a.m. Tuesday, including in Tacoma, Seattle and West Seattle, Olympia, Gig Harbor, and in Skagit, Kitsap and Mason counties.
Officials are warning the public not to drive around barricades blocking flooded roads or where water is over the road.
The NWS issued a High Wind Warning for most of western Washington starting from Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday.
The strongest winds are forecast in the late afternoon and early evening along the coast, and in the evening hours for the interior, according to the NWS.
Utility companies across the region were already reporting power outages.
